‘ChildFund India’. The name ChildFund reaffirms the true extent and international scope of its work

“Our new name- ChildFund India reinforces to help deprived excluded and vulnerable children to have the capacity to improve their lives and the opportunity to become young adults, parents and leaders who bring lasting and positive changes in their communities, and promoting societies whose individuals and institutions participate in valuing, protecting and advancing the worth and rights of every child”.

From July 1 Christian Children’s Fund (CCF) has been globally renamed as ChildFund and in India we have been known as ‘ChildFund India’. The name ChildFund reaffirms the true extent and international scope of our work and recognizes our affiliation with the ChildFund Alliance – a global force comprising of 12 international development organizations assisting children across 55 countries. The unified name will provide opportunities for collaborative activities and will open new doors in terms of strategic partnerships so as to reach many more children.

The re-branding is happening for the second time in the history of the organization and as said – “To improve is to change. To be perfect is to change often” – we anticipate the same. As we all are working to create an enabling environment for the children and work towards holistic development of the well-being – I hereby request and invite you to join us at the ‘Name Launch event’.

The name ‘ChildFund’ was chosen for its simplicity and focus on children. The green child icon in our logo reinforces our child-focused approach to development, and the colour green symbolizes hope – our organization strives to bring hope in the lives of children around the world.

In India, ChildFund India is widely recognized for its work with children and special groups, including ethnic minority groups, orphans, refugees, disabled children and children living with HIV/AIDS, among others, as well as social issues of caste, child labour and emergency response. Specific examples include our work with devadasis, children of Tibetan settlements, gypsies and disaster relief. But ChildFund India isn’t doing it all alone. Families, NGO partners, government allies, play a critical role in providing a supportive environment. We appreciate and value contribution of each stakeholder for supporting us throughout.

In South India, ChildFund is operational in three states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, through its Zonal Office in Hyderabad and Area Offices. In Karnataka, ChildFund India works in partnership with 13 local Community Participating Organizations (CPOs) spread over 8 districts covering 9,500 children directly through the sponsorship program and more than 80000 children and families indirectly.

Our programmes in South India are aimed at the survival, healthy growth and development of children marginalized community. Our approach is to work in collaboration with the government programme. In this regard we work for ensuring the complete immunization of pregnant women and the infants. As per the National Rural Health Mission, we motivate our communities for institutional deliveries and universal birth registration. Together with the ICDS programmes we are ensuring home based intervention for all te children below the age of three and centre based intervention for children from 3-5 years. We have introduced community based intervention program through positive deviance approach to address the malnutrition among under five children. A special initiative of spiriluni production was taken up to combat mal-nutrition, as a supplementary food as well as to improve the health status in people living with HIV.

We believe that receiving quality education is the basic right of every child. In this regard we are implementing reading skill improvement program in all the government schools in the communities we work. In some selected schools we are implementing comprehensive school quality improvement program taking into consideration the basic infra structure, class room processes, minimum learning levels and community participation. We ensure the participation of children through children’s clubs, child parliament, Child resource centers and child led project.

We have formed self-help groups and formed them into federation at the partner level. Livelihood programs like sustainable agriculture, Horticulture, Diary and income generation programs have been taken up. Employable skills trainings, life skill and leadership training are other programs taken up for the youth.

Immediately after the disaster T-sunami in 2004 ChildFund reached out to the affected communities especially in TamilNadu to provide relied and rehabilitation. We set up a large number of Child Centered Spaces where children could come and enjoy their childhood through games and other activities. We rebuilt their childhood by providing fishing boats and nets. We are happy to inform you that we are continuing our commitment to the communities in Nagpatnam by partnering with two NGOs in the area.

In AP, Link Workers Scheme supported by NACO/APSACS is being implemented in 300 villages of three districts to build a self reliant in rural community this can make HIV prevention and care sustainable. Programme is being reached out to High Risk Groups (Female sex workers, MSMs and IDUs) and vulnerable men women and youth in rural areas with information, knowledge, skills on STI/HIV prevention and risk reduction.
