Oracle India Honors Students and Teachers for Taking Top Honors in Global Technology Competition

Local ThinkQuest Winners Attend Special Ceremony in Delhi

• Oracle India recently hosted a ceremony in Delhi to honor seven students and teachers for their award-winning work in the 2009 ThinkQuest Competition.
• Winners were honored by Mr. Subhash Khuntia, Joint Secretary, School Education & Literacy, Ministry of Human Resource Development; Mr. Ranglal Jamuda, Commissioner, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan; Mrs. Renu Mittal, Director, Delhi Public School Society; Mr. Krishan Dhawan, Managing Director, Oracle India; Mr. Krishna Sistla, Regional Director, Oracle Education Initiatives, Asia Pacific; and other dignitaries from the Ministry of Human Resource Development and local universities.
• The ThinkQuest Competition, sponsored by the Oracle Education Foundation, challenges students to develop innovative online projects that educate their peers about global issues. Participating students develop critical 21st century skills, including critical thinking, communication, and technology skills.
• The Indian winners were selected from over 2,100 teams from 83 countries who entered the 2009 competition. They were honored for their work on the following projects:-
• Anmol, a student at Darbari Lal DAV Model School in Delhi, collaborated with teammates in Brazil and the United States to create an online project called “Let’s Rock and Roll,” which was awarded 1st place in the 15 and Under age division. The project examines the history of rock music and its impact on society.
• Students Akhil, Ashirr, Debargha, Abdul, Priya and Rimi of Kendriya Vidyalaya Project Sewak in Dimapur, created “Book Buddies,” which was awarded 2nd place in the 15 and under age division. The project explores the educational value of textbooks and traces the journey of a book from the writer’s mind to the reader’s hand. The team was coached by their teacher, Mr. Saptarshi Majumder.
• Eeshha, a student at Symbiosis School, and Rujuta, a student at Balmohan Vidyamandir in Mumbai, collaborated with students in the United States to create “You Be the Change,” which was awarded 3rd place in the 15 and Under age division. The project educates young people about global warming and sustainable living.
• In addition to the ceremony in Delhi, the winners attended the ThinkQuest Live awards event in the San Francisco Bay Area from October 11-14, 2009.
• The winners also received prizes including laptop computers, digital cameras, and school grants, depending on placement.
