Scope International Extends Sponsorship of Hiv/Aids Affected Kids to Bangalore

Support through staff contribution now reaches 325 children

Santa clause distributing gifts 1Staff of the Global Integrated Contact Centre (GICC), one of the business units of Scope International, today contributed to support the educational needs of 25 more HIV-affected children. With this, the sponsorship coverage of Scope totals 325 such children. Scope has partnered with Karnataka Positive Women Network, a city-based leading NGO working for HIV affected children to channel the contribution to these children.

The staff contribution will help these children pursue their schooling this academic year towards consolidating their future. The ambition is to continue to support these children through their schooling years. The cheque was handed over by Vinnie Panicker, Regional Head of GICC to Amudha, Secretary of Karnataka Positive Women Network. The initiative has sustained over 3 years now in Chennai. Scope staff in Chennai initially supported 84 HIV/AIDS children in 2007. Today, the number touches 325.

Vinnie Panicker said, “The response from the staff who have come forward to support these children is indeed noteworthy. It is a matter of pride for Scope to proactively espouse the cause of such children who are either AIDS orphans or have HIV infected parents and so face an uncertain future. This initiative truly gives us an opportunity to uphold our brand promise of being the Right Partner in the community.”

Shashi Ravichandran, Head – Corporate Affairs said, “It’s not just a token of support but this initiative by Scope International is a step towards establishing a long lasting relationship with HIV affected children. Besides medical attention it is important to mainstream these children and women with equal opportunities and Right to Education.”

Scope International also organized a Financial Literacy Programme on “Banking Basics” for 15 HIV affected women and 15 differently abled women. The session familiarized the women with banking concepts such as financial planning, opening a bank account or FD & procedure for taking a loan, amongst others. Apart from this, a painting competition was organized by the staff for HIV affected children. The theme for the same was “Paint your world”.

The sponsorship programme is part of Scope’s core Corporate Responsibility agenda, which is in alignment with the Standard Chartered Bank’s “Living with HIV’’ programme, a holistic approach to the HIV/AIDS pandemic, from the dual perspective of an employer and that of a good corporate citizen, thus providing valuable, needed and sustainable contributions. The Bank’s education program has succeeded in significantly raising the level of awareness of the staff about HIV/AIDS in all the represented countries. Standard Chartered has received worldwide recognition for its employee education on HIV/ AIDS. The awareness program has now been extended into the community and Scope has partnered with peer companies to conduct awareness programs for their staff.
